Data Removal is one of ExpressVPN’s Identity Defender services that aims to further improve users’ privacy. It searches for the user’s personal information on data brokers and people-search sites, then sends deletion or opt-out requests on the user’s behalf. Currently, new ExpressVPN users in the U.S. will have the option to add Data Removal to their subscription during checkout. Existing ExpressVPN users in the U.S. (who signed up before Oct. 28, 2024) do not yet have access to Data Removal, but we will be rolling it out to them soon. Availability for other regions will be confirmed later.
To subscribe:
- Go to the Order page. Data Removal is included in the two-year plan.
- Press the button on the two-year plan to proceed.
- Complete your order by entering your email address and payment details.
How to set up and use Data Removal
You may set up Data Removal in the ExpressVPN mobile apps for iOS or Android or on your ExpressVPN Account page.
- If you are using the mobile app, tap the Upgrades tab on the bottom of the app screen. If you are using the ExpressVPN website, go to your Account page, where you’ll be prompted to log into your account if you aren’t already signed in.
- Select Data Removal.
- Enter your personal information.
- Select Continue. “Scanning” will appear on the screen.
- After scanning is complete, you’ll see a dashboard showing where your info was found and the status of each deletion or opt-out request from these data brokers and people-search sites.
You do not have to do anything to remove your data again. The service will continuously ensure that the sites indeed take down your data and don’t add them back. You may check the progress within Data Removal.
How to cancel Data Removal
To cancel your Data Removal subscription, turn off auto-renewal of ExpressVPN on the My Subscription page. This cancels all services within your ExpressVPN account, including Data Removal.
